According to the University’s Department of International Affairs, the January 2026 edition of the internationally recognized Webometrics Ranking of World Universities reports that Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences has significantly improved its standing, achieving a global rank of 639 among more than 32,000 universities and higher education institutions across 200 countries.

This achievement places the University second among the country’s medical universities and third nationally among 404 Iranian universities.

Webometrics publishes its rankings twice a year. In previous editions, the University was ranked 656th worldwide in January 2025 and 691st in July 2025. In the latest edition, the University has advanced 52 positions compared to July 2025, demonstrating strong and sustained international growth.

The Webometrics Ranking system evaluates universities worldwide using three key indicators:

Visibility (50%) – Global impact based on external referring domains, Transparency (10%) – Citations from top-cited researchers (Google Scholar Profiles), Excellence (40%) – Research publications ranked among the top 10% most cited globally (Scopus/Scimago)

The rankings assess more than 32,000 institutions in over 200 countries, with data updated biannually in January and July. The methodology is designed to provide an independent, objective, and transparent evaluation of universities’ research performance and global impact.

Dr. Seyed Alireza Mortazavi, the University’s International Vice Chancellor, attributed this achievement to the strategic policies and collaborative efforts of the Department for Research and Technology, the Public Relations Department, the Statistics and Information Technology Department, and the International Accreditation and Ranking Division within the Department of International Affairs.

He also expressed his appreciation to all faculty and staff whose contributions supported this accomplishment, highlighting the University’s growing influence in scientific research and innovation. He further emphasized the University’s commitment to continuing its upward trajectory and strengthening its position not only in Webometrics but also in other leading global ranking systems.
